Valyland West NHW is one of 16 registered Neighbourhood Watches in the Fish Hoek Valley, extending as far as Noordhoek and Capri / Faerie Knowe, and was founded in September 2008 with an original membership of 35. We expanded to 90 members after our second meeting a month later. We currently have 200 members.
While the CPF are there to oversee our functions, we all fall under the jurisdiction of Fish Hoek SAPS with whom we are building a good working relationship. Good relationships have been built with the other NHW’s as well as security companies and we all support each other in times of need.
Our Neighbourhood Watch boundaries are Fish Hoek Primary School and Valyland Shopping Centre (inclusive) to the east, Fish Hoek High School to the south, the section of Kommetjie Road between 17th Ave and Riverside Rd to the west and Silverlea / Forest Drive plus Genoa Ave to the north.
Bordering NHW’s are Fish Hoek Valley North to the east, south and south east, Risiview NHW to the south west, Sun Valley NHW to the west, Silverglades NHW to the north and north west , Peershill NHW (Genoa Ave and side Roads) to the north east.
We are always looking for willing members to spread the responsibility. Having said that, it is voluntary and one does not have to be a patroller to be a member. There are many ways to contribute to the success of the NHW such as being vigilant to suspicious activities in your street or near your house and reporting to the police and NHW. If we all work together, we can keep our area and valley as safe as possible. Prevention is best but if a crime is committed, NHW’s have been instrumental in helping with capture and ensuring conviction.
