The Highway Mountainside Neighbourhood Watch was initiated in 2009 under the guidance of the South African Police Service (SAPS) Fish Hoek with the primary objectives to enlist the cooperation and, to bring to the notice of residents, the expansion in the threat of crime in the area and to develop organised structures across the board to monitor the trend in criminal activity, including registering all residents in the area and creating a community communication schedule. Membership is free to all area residents.
A radio, Any-time Call Line (ACL) and, more recently a WhatsApp communications network has been established along with the installation of an extensive CCTV camera network through the area.
HMNW recently became the first Fish Hoek area watch to be granted full affiliation to the Department of Community Safety.
